I am not sure if you’ve heard of Mindy Kaling?
She is part of the super awesome team of writers who brought us the TV masterpiece – The Office.
Her book – Is everyone….is witty and her observations in the book made me think how intuitively she inserts humour into everyday situations.
It also made me wish I could write like that, so everything would appear like you were looking at it through a pair of comical glasses.
The book is about her life – her growing up years in America defined by her being of Indian origin and being obese. She describes her years as being “largely overlooked at school and watching everyone like an observant weirdo” 🙂
She was the academic sort – hardworking and someone who liked to hang out with her family. She attributes this largely to belonging to an immigrant family where academics and an ivy league education was the holy grail.
She also writes about her move to New york, rules about friendship, romantic comedies, her day jobs and eventually how she made it in the big world of hollywood and comedy.
My favourite bits about the book and I’m absolutely biased here are the bits about The Office. I would lap up anything remotely to do with The Office ! And I must admit – her being a writer for The Office is the reason I chose to read this book.
She’s described a lot of behind the scenes moments with the team which are quite hilarious and honest.
Oh and another favourite bit is her take on Jewish guys. Very Very funny.
She ends her book with strict instructions for her funeral ! Now if that doesn’t want you to get a hold on this book, I’m not sure you’re alive 🙂
